How Many Points Did You Get? A Trip Down Memory Lane
Take a look at this list and give yourself one point for every thing you’ve never done. How high is your score?
At first glance, it looks like a simple little quiz. But it is actually a pretty funny reminder of just how quickly technology has changed.
Have you ever used a rotary phone, where making a phone call meant physically turning a dial? What about a typewriter, a floppy disk, or a film camera? For many people, these were once everyday tools. Today, they can feel like artifacts from another world.
Then there is the music section: CDs, cassette tapes, vinyl records, Walkmans, and even boomboxes playing outside. There was a time when listening to music meant choosing what you wanted to carry with you, keeping track of tapes and discs, or carefully turning over a record. Now, millions of songs can fit inside a phone.
And remember dial-up internet? Waiting for a connection while the modem made those unforgettable noises was practically a ritual. Today, a slow internet connection can feel unbearable after just a few seconds.
The list also includes things like using a paper map, owning a dictionary or encyclopedia, sending a postcard, and paying with a paper cheque. Many of these things haven’t disappeared completely, but they certainly aren’t part of everyday life for younger generations in the way they once were.
So, what’s your score?
A high score doesn’t necessarily mean you’re young, and a low score doesn’t mean you’re old. It simply shows how much technology and everyday life have changed during our lifetimes.
The real question isn’t “How many points did you get?”
It’s: How many of these things do you remember using?
And if you remember almost all of them… congratulations. You’ve officially earned some serious nostalgia points. 😄
