Does Anyone Actually Fold the Clothes as They Take Them Out of the Dryer?
Does anyone actually fold the clothes as they take them out of the dryer?
Or is that just something people claim to do?
Because I have a confession.
I am a “dump it on the bed and deal with it later” person.
Every time the dryer finishes, I open the door with good intentions.
I tell myself, This time I’ll fold everything immediately.
Then I pull out the first warm towel.
Perfect.
I fold it.
Then I find a sock.
I look for its matching partner.
I find another sock.
Not the right one.
Then a shirt gets pulled out.
I fold it.
Then another shirt.
Then suddenly I remember that I left something in the kitchen.
Five minutes later, I’m doing something completely unrelated while a mountain of warm laundry sits on the bed.
And somehow, the laundry doesn’t look like a pile anymore.
It looks like a permanent resident.
The funniest part is that I know exactly how this ends.
Eventually, I walk into the bedroom, stare at the pile, and think:
“Why is this still here?”
As if someone else put it there.
And then comes the final stage of laundry adulthood:
I don’t fold it.
I simply take clothes from the pile as I need them.
A pair of pajamas?
Found them.
A clean shirt?
Found it.
That one towel I was sure had disappeared?
There it is, underneath three pairs of jeans.
At some point, the pile becomes less of a laundry pile and more of a very poorly organized wardrobe.
And honestly?
I suspect I’m not alone.
There must be people out there who hear the dryer buzz, immediately remove every piece of clothing, fold everything into beautiful little rectangles, and put it all away before doing anything else.
I admire those people.
I don’t understand those people.
I would like to meet those people.
Mostly because I have one important question:
How?
How do you summon that level of discipline when the clothes are warm, the couch is calling, and absolutely nothing terrible happens if the laundry sits there until tomorrow?
So tell me the truth.
Do you fold your clothes immediately when they come out of the dryer—or do you have a laundry chair, laundry basket, laundry bed, or mysterious pile that has been there long enough to qualify as furniture?
No judgment.
We’re among friends. 😄
