Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for baking) or oil for frying
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano (optional)

Ingredient Notes

  • Russet Potatoes: Best for crispy fries because of their high starch content
  • Soaking: Removes excess starch and helps create crispiness
  • Paprika + Garlic Powder: Adds classic seasoned fry flavor

Instructions

Step 1: Cut the Potatoes

Peel potatoes if desired and cut into even fry-sized strips.

Step 2: Soak the Fries

Place fries in cold water for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch.

Step 3: Dry Thoroughly

Drain and pat fries completely dry using paper towels.

Step 4: Season

Toss fries with olive oil, salt, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, and oregano.

Step 5: Cook the Fries

  • Spread fries in a single layer on a baking tray
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway

Frying Method

  • Heat oil to 350°F (175°C)
  • Fry potatoes in batches for 4–6 minutes until golden and crispy
  • Drain on paper towels

Step 6: Serve

Serve hot with ketchup, garlic sauce, cheese sauce, or your favorite dip.
