Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Frying pan or deep pot
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Ingredients

  • 3 large Potato (cut into 1/4-inch slices)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch (for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 3/4 cup cold water (add more if needed)
  • Oil for frying

Optional Seasoning

  • Chili flakes
  • Dried oregano
  • Parmesan cheese after frying

Ingredient Notes

  • Cornstarch + flour combo: Gives extra crunch
  • Cold water: Helps create a light, crispy batter
  • Potatoes: Waxy or starchy both work, but starchy fries better

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Potatoes

Wash and slice potatoes evenly into medium-thin rounds. Soak in cold water for 10 minutes, then dry completely.

Step 2: Make the Batter

In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Slowly add cold water until a smooth, slightly thick batter forms.

Step 3: Heat Oil

Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat (about 350°F / 175°C).

Step 4: Coat and Fry

Dip each potato slice into the batter, letting excess drip off. Carefully place into hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy (3–4 minutes per side).

Step 5: Drain

Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Step 6: Serve

Sprinkle with salt or seasoning and serve hot with ketchup, mayo, or garlic dip.
