Simple Portion Guide
Because appetite may be substantially lower on Mounjaro, you don’t necessarily need large meals.
For a typical meal, aim roughly for:
- Protein: 3–5 oz cooked
- Vegetables: 1–2 cups
- Whole-grain/starchy carbohydrate: ½–1 cup cooked
- Healthy fat: 1–2 teaspoons oil or a small portion of avocado/nuts
Eat slowly and stop when comfortably satisfied rather than trying to finish a predetermined portion.

Foods to Limit
Especially if they worsen your stomach symptoms:
- Fried foods
- Very fatty meals
- Large portions
- Heavy cream sauces
- Highly processed foods
- Large amounts of sweets
- Sugary drinks
- Excessive alcohol
Spicy foods aren’t universally problematic, but if Mounjaro gives you reflux or nausea, reducing them may help.
If You Feel Nauseated
Try smaller meals more frequently rather than forcing yourself to eat a large meal.
Good options can include:
- Plain toast
- Crackers
- Rice
- Banana
- Applesauce
- Soup
- Plain yogurt
- Eggs
- Baked chicken
- Small portions of oatmeal
Eat slowly and sip fluids throughout the day.
Hydration
Make hydration a priority.
Water is the simplest choice. You can also use unsweetened tea, broth, or other low-sugar fluids.
If you’re experiencing persistent vomiting or diarrhea, dehydration can become serious, so contact your healthcare professional rather than simply trying to compensate with diet.
Important: Don’t Make It an Extremely Low-Calorie Diet
Mounjaro reduces appetite, so it’s easy to unintentionally eat far too little.
A sustainable plan should still provide adequate protein, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and fluids. If you’re losing weight very rapidly, struggling to eat enough, or experiencing significant weakness, discuss your intake with your prescriber or a registered dietitian.
Also, don’t change your Mounjaro dose or stop the medication based on a diet plan.
