Brown butter and banana bread

This brown butter banana bread takes classic banana bread to the next level. The butter is gently browned to create a deep, nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with sweet ripe bananas.


📝 Ingredients

  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 3 ripe bananas (mashed)
  • Âľ cup brown sugar
  • ÂĽ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Brown the Butter

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat
  • Stir until it turns golden brown and smells nutty
  • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly

2. Prepare the Batter

  • In a bowl, mix mashed bananas, brown sugar, and granulated sugar
  • Add eggs and vanilla, whisk until smooth
  • Pour in the browned butter and mix well

3. Add Dry Ingredients

  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon
  • Gradually fold into the wet mixture
  • Add nuts or chocolate chips if using

4. Bake

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F)
  • Pour batter into a greased loaf pan
  • Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean

5. Cool & Serve

  • Let cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes
  • Transfer to a rack and cool completely before slicing

🍽️ Pro Tips

  • Use overripe bananas (dark spots = more sweetness)
  • Don’t overmix—keeps the bread soft
  • Brown butter carefully (don’t burn it)
  • Add a sprinkle of sugar on top before baking for a crispy crust
