“Daddy, Who Is This Beautiful Woman in This Picture?”
“Daddy, who is this beautiful woman in this picture?”
My little girl suddenly asked me that question while looking through an old photo album.
I looked at the picture in her hands, and my heart skipped a beat.
For a few seconds, I couldn’t say a word.

Memories I had promised myself I would never talk about again.

Those words hit me harder than I could explain.
She was only a child.
She didn’t know the truth.
She didn’t know what had happened between us.
She didn’t know why that photograph had been hidden away for so many years.
I took the picture from her hands and stared at it.
For the first time in years, I realized that perhaps I had been running from the past instead of facing it.
My daughter moved closer.
“Daddy…”
“Yes?”
“Is she my mother?”
My heart stopped.
I looked into my daughter’s eyes.
And suddenly, I knew I could no longer hide the truth.
What I told her next would change everything she believed about her family.
